  • No. This unit records and saves video, but it does not play VHS tapes by itself. A working VHS player, VCR, camcorder, DVD player, or other external video source is required.

  • No. You can record, preview, save, and copy files directly on the recorder, making it much easier to use at home without a PC setup.

  • Recordings are saved in MP4 format. Some older standalone DVD players may not support MP4 playback, so this does not always mean the recording failed. You can use the built-in Media Player to check the file first.

  • Long recordings saved to DVD are automatically divided into chapters to improve playback compatibility. If you prefer one continuous file, record to a USB drive or SD card instead.

  • The front EJECT button works only when the recorder is on the Menu screen. You can also use the side EJECT button. If the unit is unresponsive, the tray can be opened manually using the small emergency pin hole.

  • Record VHS to DVD or Digital Storage Without a Computer: Connect an external VCR or VHS player, Hi8 or MiniDV camcorder, or other compatible AV or HDMI sources, then record directly to DVD, USB drive, SD card, or external HDD. This recorder does not play VHS tapes by itself.
  • All Recordings Saved as MP4: Every recording is saved as an MP4 file, including those recorded to DVD. Choose DVD for a physical copy, or save to a USB drive, SD card, or external HDD for digital storage and backup. Some older standalone DVD players may not support MP4 playback.
  • Preview on the 4.3-Inch Screen and Watch on TV: Monitor video on the built-in 4.3-inch IPS LCD and hear audio through the built-in speaker while recording. Play recorded DVDs and compatible media on the recorder, or connect HDMI OUT to a TV or monitor for larger-screen viewing.
  • Back Up Phone Photos and Videos with FriendlyMemories: Connect an iOS or Android phone directly to the recorder’s Wi-Fi hotspot and use the FriendlyMemories app to transfer supported photos and videos to connected storage—no computer or cloud storage required.
  • Copy Files Without a Computer: Copy supported recordings, photos, videos, and other supported media files between DVD and an SD card or USB drive directly on the recorder. USB drives, SD cards, and compatible external HDDs must use FAT32 or NTFS; exFAT is not supported.
